“I’ve had a rough season trying to get into the groove of things,” said South Winneshiek senior Ellie Loesch.
Making the finals of two events at the state track meet will definitely smooth out those rough edges. Loesch earned her way back to the finals in both the 100 and 200 in Class 1A Thursday afternoon at the state track meet in Des Moines.
Loesch qualified fifth quick to the finals in the 200 in a time of 26.80. Her 100 preliminary time of 12.70 was second quick. Getting to compete in both races Saturday was her main goal. “All I was focused on was making it to the finals,” said Loesch. “Once you get to the finals, anything can happen.”
Loesch is a four-time state qualifier in the 100 and will attempt to become a three-time place winner Saturday. She was seventh two years ago and the runner-up last season.
The future Upper Iowa Peacock is now a three-time qualifier in the 200. Loesch finished second in that event at last year’s state meet.
