She’s one of the best track athletes ever at Crestwood high school. And she ended her career at the top of the mountain.
Katie Saner won both the 100 and the 200 in class 2-A Saturday at the state track meet in Des Moines. Saner ran a 12.87 to win the 100 and a 26.44 to win the 200.
“I think all the work I did payed off,” said Saner. “I run a lot of 400s at practice to push myself and get my training to the next level.”
On Thursday, Saner ran the preliminaries in the 100 and 200 plus the 400 and long jump within an hour. Saturday’s work was a bit easier. “I know my (100)s and (200)s are always solid and having only those races to focus on today helped.”
The two titles today were the second and third in Saner’s career. Saner was a part of a winning distance medley relay team last year. She ends her high school career as a seven-time state medal winner.
Saner says she plans to continue her track career next year at Luther.
